NORDIC WALKING

Nordic Walking
Nordic Walking‘s basic technique is a simple, yet not easy or predictable, way of walking and exercising. This is why it is key to start practicing this sport under the guidance of a Qualified Instructor, by taking a Basic Course and/or individual technical lessons.
Nordic Walking practiced with a correct technique offers many benefits: at postural, cardio-circulatory and, of course, metabolic levels.
Like any sport, Nordic Walking also features some physical preparation exercises aimed at improving one’s technique and physical condition. These exercises vary if you are a competitive Nordic Walker, or if you practice as amateur and/or for your psycho-physical well being.
Nordic Walking poles can be used in many regular training exercises, as well as in exercises for the improvement of all motor abilities: coordination and balance, articular mobility and muscular strengthening. These exercises are part of any training session. Of course, resistance is the ability that will be stimulated the most; however, rhythm variations provoked by different types of technique, as well as slope, surface and speed changes will always play their part too!
The name Nordic Walking refers to the countries of Northern Europe, in Scandinavia. The ideal landscape to practice this sport is not one with steep inclines, but one of level lands, or, even better when training, one with ongoing up and downs with a maximum incline of 6/8%.
Competitive Nordic Walking
A different way of living this sport.
The goal of these training sessions is the technical improvement for a better performance. These include athletic and physical preparation sessions aimed at bettering your overall physical condition. Of course, the goal will always be to be faster, and technically more precise, in a race.
Beyond the “open air gyms” of Val di Cornia, this kind of training can also be perfomed on athletics fields.
Val di Cornia offers the perfect morphology to practice Nordic Walking!
Immersed in seasonal cultures, flat lands are predominant. They are ideal for Nordic walks, training and/or itinerant lessons. These include stretches along the coast, some directly on the beach, some in the pine forests a few meters from the sea. As for hills, you will only have to choose: from open country roads to trails in the woods.
What could be nicer than going on holiday where you can practice your favorite sport, and also discover the surroundings? In Val di Cornia you will find a huge open air gym to be discovered at Nordic Walking pace!
Some examples: Rimigliano Park, available all year long, with unique vegetation. Piombino’s Promontory, a little more technically and physically demanding, it offers intense training sessions and breathtaking views. A great Nordic Walking beach is the one from Porto di San Vincenzo going North towards Marina di Castagneto. Also, the Baratti Gulf: these walks unravel between the pine forests and the trails towards Pozzino and Stellino-Torraccia. More inland, Montioncello and Venturina Terme offer great outdoor training grounds, together with the Campiglia Marittima region connected to the Rocca di San Silvestro, Suveretoand, with some extra kilometers, Sassetta and San Carlo. Finally, in the Suvereto Municipality, can be found articulate trails ideal for Nordic Walking.
